Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are in real danger of losing out on a top-4 spot come the end of the season as his Chelsea side are currently struggling to find consistency. The manager added a couple of exciting stars to his lineup in the January transfer window but does not seem totally happy with the options at his disposal.
The Italian manager may yet lose his job, if the Blues fail to beat Barcelona in the UCL or fail to break into the top-4 but he is already looking for players who can help him and the team in the next season and one player now linked with a move to London is AS Roma star Alessandro Florenzi.
According to reports, AS Roma are convinced that Florenzi is a star player and do not want to lose him anytime soon. It is understood that the Italian outfit are set to offer him a new, lifetime contract, that will make him one of the highest paid players at the club. However, the FFP rules will have their say in this deal and it is now revealed that there are clubs already circling around the 26-year old for a move in the summer.
The Italian giants sold Mo Salah to Liverpool and Emerson Palmieri to Chelsea since the end of the previous season and it is now reported that Florenzi is attracting interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Having broken into the first team at Stadio Olimpico back in 2011, the midfielder has 207 appearances across all competitions for the club, picking up 25 goals and 27 assists in this time. Capable of playing as a right-back, a right-winger or as a left-winger, the 25-cap Italy international is the first choice full-back for the club, making 19 Serie A starts this season.
He has just a goal and two assists this season but has been an integral part of the squad, playing all his games as a right back or a right-wing back for di Francesco. Known for his strength and hold up play and his ability to put in productive crosses makes him a dangerous player. He is useful with the ball, is rarely caught out of position and is also strong in the air, making him perfect for the English game.
Conte has used Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta on the right flank as wing-backs this season and Florenzi will be an upgrade on both those names. However, he is settled at Roma, is the first choice for the club, and might not be ready to quit anytime soon.
So Chelsea are better off looking at other player but do you think his versatility and his previous experience of playing under Conte, with the Italian national side, will be enough to lure him to the English capital?
