Chelsea have emerged as surprise favourites to seal a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. According to the United Kingdom bookmakers Ladbrokes, the Blues are currently leading the race to secure his services ahead of their Premier League showdown with the Red Devils. Antonio Conte’s men will visit Old Trafford on Sunday where a victory will put them level on points with United.
Rashford is not expected to start for the Red Devils and has recently struggled to find game time after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez last month. The Chilean ace’s transfer from Arsenal has increased competition for places in Jose Mourinho’s frontline. Hence, the 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order, with both Sanchez and Anthony Martial preferred ahead of him. The English forward scored in their home game versus Chelsea last season after Mourinho started him as a striker but Romelu Lukaku seems like he is set to lead the lines for United on Sunday.
Some sources have recently linked Rashford with a move to Real Madrid but it seems like the United Kingdom bookies have installed Chelsea as the favourites to seal a move for the English youngster. Ladbrokes have priced Chelsea as 2/1 favourites to sign Rashford with Los Blancos priced at 5/2.
The West London club are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table with a tally of 53 points in 27 Premier League matches but are a staggering 19 points behind league leaders Manchester City. The addition of Rashford could go a long way in helping them bridge the gap between themselves and the Manchester clubs in the coming years.
He will definitely bolster Antonio Conte’s attacking options going forward and could turn out to be an ideal asset for them due to his versatility. Rashford can operate on either wing or play up top as a centre-forward which Chelsea could look to utilise next season.
The West London outfit would do well to sign him if they can convince United to part ways with their prized asset. The England international has scored 10 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions this season. He has a good goalscoring record when deployed as a striker which is exactly what Chelsea are looking for at the moment.
Both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud are not guaranteed a regular starting place under Antonio Conte, so Rashford can be brought it to lead the lines for the Blues. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the English ace and whether he ends up moving to Stamford Bridge in the near future.
