Brendan Rodger’s Celtic are on their way to yet another league title in Scotland. But the manager cannot be too comfortable with the squad, as a number of his first-team stars, will be wanted men in the transfer market at the end of the season.
While full-back Kieran Tierney might earn himself a multi-million move to the Premier League, one player Celtic might struggle to keep at the club beyond the summer is French star Moussa Dembele.
Having joined the Celts back in 2016 from Fulham, Dembele has established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe, albeit in a largely uncompetitive league. He is still 21 and is potentially one of the best strikers in the world at the moment.
He has been linked with an exit for over a year now, with most of the top clubs and a few struggling ones in the Premier League, all linked with a move for the striker recently. However, Rodgers managed to keep him at the club, on his way to yet another league title.
However, it is now reported that Dembele will be a wanted man yet again in the summer transfer window and he has now found a new suitor in French giants Marseille. It is understood that Dembele might be tempted to move back to Ligue 1 but can Celtic afford to let him leave?
In just 45 league appearances for Celtic, the 21-year old has picked up 22 goals and 13 assists but has just nine goals across all competitions this season, A gifted footballer with a keen eye for goal, he is a natural goal scorer and loves to find dangerous positions in the final third.
He can dribble past players with ease and is capable of beating even the best shot-stoppers from distance but what makes him a dangerous player, is his ability to drop into the midfield, to open up space in the final third.
He is an intelligent footballer, who will only get better in time and it does not come as a surprise that he wants to play in a more challenging league.
But for Celtic, losing him will be disastrous. Of the 22 goals that he has scored, Dembele has at least six winners and is a genuine match winner. He will not be easy to replace and his potential is something Rodgers will not want to lose anytime soon.
He will fetch a fair quid when he does leave but Celtic need his services more than what he can fetch and it is imperative for their domestic position that they do not allow star players like Dembele leave the club, after just two years.
