Cardiff City have rewarded their manager Neil Warnock with a new two-year contract extension after he put the Bluebirds in contention to earn a promotion back to the Premier League. The club has confirmed that Warnock has penned a two-year contract extension following a relatively successful season with the Welsh outfit so far.
The 69-year-old manager, who signed for Cardiff City in October 2016, has extended his contract to keep him at the Welsh club until the end of the 2019/20 season. The signing comes after the veteran manager guided the Bluebirds to second place in the Sky Bet Championship, four points clear of third-placed Aston Villa.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan expressed his delight and was quoted to have said, ‘After positive talks, I am very pleased that Neil has committed to Cardiff City Football Club for a further two seasons,’
‘Having supported Neil since his arrival at the club we have been delighted to see results follow on the pitch.
‘We are very happy to have agreed on this deal and are looking forward to continuing to bring further success to Cardiff City.
‘We were also pleased to strengthen the team in the recent January window, and wish Neil and the entire squad much success in the games ahead.’
The Welsh club are currently in second place in the English Championship standings with a tally of 67 points in 34 league matches. With just 8 matches remaining this term, the Bluebirds are well in contention of earning a promotion back to the top tier of English football. They are currently just four points above Aston Villa but are a massive six points behind league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Neil Warnock has been instrumental in their recent good run and looks set to secure another season in the Premier League. The 69-year-old has a wealth of experience in English football and could be the ideal man to lead the Welsh outfit in the coming years as the club looks to establish itself as one of the top clubs in the United Kingdom.
Warnock has taken charge of 79 matches during his time in Cardiff City with a record of 36 wins, 17 draws and 21 losses. He also has a PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.69 which makes him one of the finest managers in the Championship. Only time will tell whether he can have a similar effect in the Premier League if Cardiff can secure an automatic promotion at the end of this season. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Warnock and whether his contract extension turns out to be a success or a bust.
