Wigan Athletic midfielder, Nick Powell’s transfer speculation has not ended just yet even though the January window has shut down less than a week ago. Plenty of clubs are fighting for the 23-year-old’s signature and maybe Brighton And Hove Albion are still interested in him. The Seagulls saw all of their bids for Powell get rejected by the League One side and Scottish Premiership side, Celtic have emerged as the likely suitors to land his services. Brighton have already signed Jurgen Locadia and Leonardo Ulloa but have not made any additions to the midfield.
The former Manchester United player has attracted the attention of a lot of sides in both the Premier League and the EFL Championship and the Saints will have to splash a decent amount to pry him away from a promotion-chasing Wigan.
Powell was ruled out as a bust at Manchester United where he made only 9 appearances in 4 years. It was at the DW Stadium where he finally fit in and has played the best football of his career. The 23-year-old has played around the country with a couple of loan spells to Leicester City and Hull City before making the permanent move to Wigan in the summer of 2016.
The Latics have just signed James Vaughan from Sunderland and it looks like Nick Powell’s exit might not be very unlikely. The highly-rated midfielder with a lot of experience under his belt is one of the hottest prospects in the English game and is on the wishlist of many. Wigan have faced a plethora of offers for the maestro and it looks like they have already prepared for his departure.
Brighton are coming off an impressive 3-1 victory over West Ham United last night to boost their survival battle. A massive push after falling victim to another blowout performance from Chelsea as the visitors thrashed them to a 4-0 loss. The Seagulls got completely outclassed defensively and failed to convert their all important but rare chances against the title contenders.
The side has struggled to find the back of the net with just 17 goals scored in 23 games. That formula might not cut it for the rest of the season, and an attacking addition is necessary to successful escape relegation.
In order to ensure survival in top-flight English football, they need a player like Nick Powell to link up the forwards with the rest of the team. His distribution skills will definitely help the strike force next season if he arrives in the summer.
