Barcelona played hosts to Getafe on Sunday looking to stretch their gap at the top of the La Liga standings to 9 points, following their 1-1 draw against Espanyol in their last league outing. The Catalans started the match in tame fashion and couldn’t register a shot on target in the first half. It was a similar story in the second half as well with Barcelona left frustrated by some valiant Getafe defending. The match ended with both teams sharing the spoils in a disappointing 0-0 draw for the home side.
Let’s shed some light on how each Barcelona player fared during the contest.
GK: Marc-André ter Stegen – 6/10
He made a few good saves but struggled when having to kick the ball. The German almost slipped while rushing out of his box which could have led to a Getafe goal.
RB: Sergi Roberto – 6/10
He made a few good runs down the right flank but failed to have any kind of meaningful impact on the game.
CB: Yerry Mina – 8/10
The debutant was outstanding on the day and defended well to keep a clean sheet for his team. He looked composed on the ball and impressed on his home debut for the Catalans.
CB: Lucas Digne – 7/10
The Frenchman was solid as a makeshift centre-back and did well to earn a clean sheet.
LB: Jordi Alba – 6/10
The Spaniard put in a tireless shift at left-back but was not up to his usual standards going forward mostly due to Coutinho’s poor passing choices.
CM: Ivan Rakitic – 6/10
He was tireless at the centre of the park and put in a hard-working performance in the Barca midfield.
CM: Sergio Busquets – 6/10
The Spaniard did not have the best of games and got cautioned for a poor challenge in the second half.
LM: Phillipe Coutinho – 6/10
The Brazilian was non-existent in the first-half but had a much better second-half. He tested the Getafe keeper with shots from distance before being substituted at the hour mark.
RM: Paco Alcácer – 5/10
He had a game to forget and was mostly ineffective during the game.
ST: Lionel Messi – 6/10
Not one of his best days in a Barcelona shirt, the Argentine superstar was wasteful with opportunities from dead-ball situations and failed to live up to his usual high standards.
ST: Luis Suárez – 7/10
The Uruguayan tried his best to score but was left frustrated in the second half. His work-rate was flawless but it wasn’t enough to get Barcelona over the line on the day.
Substitutes:
LM: Andreas Iniesta – 7/10
The Spaniard controlled the game well after coming on from the bench and dictated play for Barca from the left.
RM: Ousmane Dembele – 6/10
His pace down the right flank caused some headaches for the Getafe defenders but the ex-Dortmund player was unable to find the back of the net.
CM: Paulinho – N/A
The Brazilian hardly had any time to make an impact in the game.
