Arsenal could enter the transfer race along with FC Barcelona for the services of Max Meyer in the summer. The Schalke midfielder has been in excellent form this season and eventually, attracted interest from a host of top clubs around Europe, including Barcelona.
The Gunners have done a lot of business in the January transfer window but coach Arsene Wenger is willing to invest more in his side and the addition of Max Meyer could be ideal for the Frenchman.
The highly-rated midfielder is out of contract at Schalke at the end of the season, meaning he could potentially be available for free, should he chooses to reject any contract extension at the Veltins Arena.
Even though FC Barcelona are said to be favourites for the signature of Max Meyer in the coming summer, the recent acquisition of Philipe Coutinho could make them think twice before signing the German midfielder. Arsenal, on the other hand, have lost the likes of Francis Coquelin, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez in January and are very open to a move for a midfielder in the summer.
Considering the fact that Jack Wilshere’s future at Arsenal still hangs in the balance, the Gunners should definitely go all out for the 22-year-old. The former Bournemouth player is also running out of contract in the summer and Arsenal have been hugely reluctant to extend his contract, despite the player’s initial wish to stay at the club.
Max Meyer could prove to be an ideal replacement for Jack Wilshere, should he depart the club in the summer. Generally known as an attacking midfielder, the Schalke midfielder has been completely transformed into a deep-lying playmaker by coach Domenico Tedesco this season and his performances haven’t been disappointing either. Acquiring his services for a free could be a huge steal for Arsenal who have struggled in their midfield department this season.
The seemingly forgotten Schalke youth product has somewhat dethroned former Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb in the starting lineup as well as proving himself to be an important cog in the Schalke midfield.
Fairly adept at playing as the anchorman, Max Meyer’s superior passing qualities and great vision make him an ideal fit for the Gunners, who would definitely welcome some midfield reinforcements following the departure of Coquelin and rumoured exits of both Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere in the summer.
