Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has recently spoken about his love for Real Madrid. “Obviously I have to respect Chelsea, who made a huge effort to sign me and I’m very happy here but Madrid will always be Madrid for me,” he said.
The Spanish striker came through the youth ranks at the Bernabeu but failed to make a mark in the first team and was consequently farmed out to Juventus. The Turin side helped the striker grow and Madrid came calling for him again. Morata returned to Madrid for the second time as a recognized striker but once again failed to replace Karim Benzema at the helm.
Having failed to get enough game time, he opted to move to seek regular football and win a place in the Spanish national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. This resulted in the forward moving to London to play for Chelsea who bought the number nine for a club-record fee.
Alvaro Morata’s bright start had Chelsea up and running in the early part of the season. Chelsea’s record signing from Real Madrid had hit the ground running and proved himself to be an able replacement for Diego Costa. Morata’s red-hot form last year for club and country helped him rack up over 15 goals in the early part of the season.
However, as the season progressed, Morata showed signs of fatigue and having already played more minutes this season than any other previous campaign, Chelsea will have to be careful with their handling of the Spanish striker. He is currently out of action since mid-January and Conte is unsure of his return date.
“Players like Morata, for us, are very important and have been missing for a long period of time,” Conte said on Friday. “I don’t know how long he will be out. We are struggling a lot to find a solution to solve the pain in his back. If you ask me whether he needs a day, a month or the rest of the season, I don’t know. I don’t know. For this reason, I’m a bit worried. You know very well the importance of the player.”
It would seem that things are falling apart once again for Morata at his new club and with Madrid suffering in the other end due to Benzema’s lack of form, the Spaniard might consider a third spell at his boyhood club if Madrid come calling. Chelsea, on their part, should not be short-sighted in their approach and keep a hold of Morata at any cost given the striker’s young age and potential talent to deliver in the near future.
