Swansea City will travel to Sheffield to take on Sheffield Wednesday at the Hillsborough Stadium in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday. The Swans are flying high in the league at the moment and has done well to get themselves out of immediate relegation danger. They put 8 goals past Notts County in the previous round and Carlos Carvalhal will hope that his players can put in a similar kind of performance against the Owls this weekend. Meanwhile, the home team have struggled in the English Championship but have done enough to keep some distance between themselves and the relegation zone this season. They will be confident about their chances of getting a result versus their Premier League counterparts and cause an upset on the day.
The Swans are expected to stick with their 5-4-1 formation and Carvalhal could name an unchanged side which ensured a 1-0 victory versus Burnley last weekend.
5-4-1 Swansea City Predicted Lineup To Face Sheffield United
Defence
Lukasz Fabianski is expected to retain his place in goal for the Swans after keeping a clean sheet versus Burnley in the Premier League.
The back five is likely to include Alfie Mawson, Federico Fernandez and Mike van der Hoorn as central defenders while Kyle Naughton and Martin Olsson take up the full-back roles.
The Swans’ defence has conceded just 3 goals in 4 FA Cup matches so far this season. Carlos Carvalhal’s side has been in terrific form recently and part of their success has been down to their defence which has just shipped in four goals in their last five outings. The Portuguese boss will hope that his back five can keep it tight at the back once again when they face the Owls on Saturday.
Midfield
Carlos Carvalhal is expected to choose Tom Carroll and Ki Sung-Yueng as his holding midfielders while Samuel Clucas will feature from the left flank and Nathan Dyer operates from the right side of the midfield. The match will be won and lost at the centre of the park and it will up to these four players to raise their games in an effort to stand toe to toe with the Sheffield Wednesday midfield.
Both Dyer and Clucas will be responsible to link up play in the opposition box and create some chances for their teammates to feed on.
Attack
Jordan Ayew is set to continue up top for the Swans. He has done really well for the Welsh club while leading the lines and has put in some tireless shifts in the opposition half which has helped get the best out of his teammates. The 28-year-old Ghanaian forward will hope to get his name on the scoresheet once again when he laces up to face the Owls this weekend.
