Manchester United will travel to Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium to take on Sevilla in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie looking to build on their 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in their last outing. The Red Devils are all but out of the Premier League title race while winning the UEFA Champions League won’t be an easy feat. However, it’s a competition that Jose Mourinho has built his reputation on and the Portuguese manager will hope that United can secure progression into the quarter-finals of the competition. Meanwhile, the home team are in good form and have won their last three matches in all competitions.
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs. Mourinho will be without the services of Paul Pogba for this clash. He is expected to opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and may choose to hand Antonio Valencia a start at right-back.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Sevilla
Defence
David De Gea should start in goal for Manchester United and will be protected by a back four consisting of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof in central defence while Antonio Valencia operates as the right-back and Luke Shaw might start on the left side of the backline.
Jose Mourinho’s defenders conceded a cheap goal at St. James Park in their narrow 1-0 defeat versus Newcastle United in their last league outing. The Special One will be hoping that they keep a clean sheet away at Sevilla and put on a much-improved showing in defence on Wednesday night.
Midfield
The duo of Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay could be deployed at the centre of the park as the holding midfielders while the trio of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and new signing, Alexis Sanchez will play ahead of them. They will be tasked to create some chances and score the goals that will make the difference on the night. Juan Mata might have to settle for a place on the bench and could be called upon if needed later on in the match.
Attack
Romelu Lukaku will once again lead the lines for the Red Devils up top. The big Belgian striker has struggled to find the back of the net consistently in recent times but will hope to get his name on the scoresheet to help United progress to the next round of the competition. Marcus Rashford might be used from the bench as another attacking option for Jose Mourinho to consider.
