Arsenal were already facing heavy competition from Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of FC Girondins de Bordeaux winger, Malcom and now Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich have joined in the race. The German outfit has to replace their veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery and have pegged Malcom to be their prime candidate.
When asked Malcom, Bordeaux boss, Gus Poyet said, “He is a special player who can win matches on his own. He is often double-marked because his talent is that special. In January we were nervous because we almost lost him to the Premier League. We must prepare for this because sooner or later he will leave.”
The 20-year-old already has a deal in place which will allow him to leave the Ligue 1 side for a club of his choosing. His current contract is set to run till the summer of 2021 and Bordeaux has the bargaining chip to deal him out with a heavy compensation package.
Interests over Malcom started ever since he started playing in Europe. He was already a high-value prospect while playing for Brazilian outfit, Corinthians and the Brazil U20 and U23 sides. He has been one of the brightest sparks in the French league with 8 goals and 7 assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
It would have been an expensive acquisition for Arsene Wenger but quite possibly a successful one. The Frenchman has seen a few key players make a club exit over the last 2 transfer windows but Wenger did not miss the opportunity to find replacements.
He has already signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and is currently in the market for a wide man. Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s departure has left the North London club a bit short-handed in the flank position and here a few candidates they should consider ahead of the summer.
Lorenzo Insigne
Standing at just 5 feet 4 inches tall, the Napoli man is one of the agilest players in world football. His short structure allows him to weave his way through the opposition defence and take on defenders on the flanks. Scintillating pace and a low centre of gravity make him one of the hardest players to get off the ball.
Thomas Lemar
Even after being strongly linked to Liverpool none of the transfer rumours have materialized yet. The £90m priced AS Monaco wide man is still in the market and Wenger still has the chance to sign him.
Cristian Pavon
He plies his trade for Boca Juniors, a team with a history of producing great players. A supremely confident player on the ball, Pavon can appear from either of the wings or even in the lone striker role.
