Alex Sandro has recently come out to the media claiming that he remains committed to his contract and current club Juventus. The explosive left-back was highly linked with Chelsea last summer but a move failed to transpire.
“I have always remained focused on my work and my only thought has always been Juventus, with whom I still have two years of contract. I feel really good and I am satisfied with my condition today. My goal is, first of all, to win everything with Juventus. Then, the World Cup will come and I hope to deserve a call from the Selecao by doing well here.”
It now appears that Chelsea’s hopes of signing Sandro are next to nil and the Blues will have to look at other alternatives. Here are three viable options to look at.
Alex Telles
The 24-year-old left back signed for the Portuguese club in 2016 from Galatasaray and has impressed ever since. Telles has a long contract which expires in 2021. The defender has good pace and acceleration and can be a handful to deal with while on the overlap. However, the player is defensively fragile and is not the most composed player when left one-v-one situations. It will also be interesting to see if he can adjust to the rough-tackling nature of the Premier League.
Danny Rose
Rose’s rise to fame came in a north London derby back in April 2010 when he scored an incredible strike from 30 yards out to settle the match for his team. Wenger described the 19-year old Leeds United graduate’s strike as a ‘goal in a million’. Although the left-back made a debut to remember for the rest of his life, his Tottenham career took a downturn and the left-back left on loan in search of more game time.
His career began to take an upward path from the 2013-14 and Rose has since gone on to establish himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham backline. Although miniature in size, his tremendous pace, ability to dribble and stout nature has made him a forceful opponent. His ability to make crunching tackles and play at a high tempo combined with his energy to go on the overlap for the full ninety minutes of a match has made him the ideal modern day fullback.
Layvin Kurzawa
The Paris Saint-Germain left-back’s future has been left hanging by a thread at the club. Their manager, Unai Emery has rotated him around with last summer arrival, Yuri Berchiche in the backline and this has seen Kurzawa lose his first-team berth at the Parc des Princes. The 25-year old is highly talented on the ball and can be an asset in Chelsea’s wing-back system.
