Luis Enrique is one of the decorated names that is floating around in the managerial clubs. He is already targeted by the Ligue 1 leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, but according to the Sun, Enrique is still holding out on offers from the Premier League elites.
Luis Enrique is a celebrated coach who has won 9 trophies in his 3-year stint with Barcelona. After a rewarding but at the same time exhausting period with the La Liga giants, Enrique chose to step down from his post and spend a year on sabbatical. The stress of being a Barcelona manager is no secret as seen in Pep Guardiola who also chose to spend a year away before taking up the head position at Bayern Munich.
Enrique has spent the majority of his managerial years in Spain along with a season away to the Serie A with AS Roma. He is not short on European experience and has beaten Premier League sides with his star-stacked Barcelona lineup. And the real question lies in whether he is capable of replicating that same amazing feat while managing one of the English sides.
While the Premier League has its own glamour in terms of competition, it is also a place where you either make it or break it. Enrique might not enjoy the financial freedom that Pep enjoys with City and this will be one of the concerns which the 47-year-old will have to address before taking up the job. Here are a few top-flight English clubs who should be considering him for the managerial position.
Chelsea
Current boss, Antonio Conte saw his team lose 4-1 against an energetic Watford last week. The Hornets completely dominated the game from start to finish and scored at their own whim as the Chelsea defence just allowed them to walk in the penalty box while trying to spark a comeback.
This loss hurt even more for the Blues fans because of the earlier defeat to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. They were the victim of another 3 goal thrashing and that too right at home. This might just be the end product of the rift between Conte and the Chelsea board that was ignited last summer. The loss against Watford might be one of the final logs to be added to the fire as Roman Abramovich and his advisors are already looking for the Italian’s replacement.
Arsenal
Arsene Wenger might already have settled on the assumption that he will repeat last year’s feat of finishing in the 6th spot of the points table, well away from the Champions League qualification places. While Arsenal are still alive in the Europa League and the EFL League Cup, another season without a trophy might be the end of the Frenchman’s 21-year tenure with the North London club. His contract is set to run till the summer of 2019.
Manchester United
The dominance of their noisy neighbours has been a tough pill to swallow for the Old Trafford fans. Even after spending magnanimous amounts of money for quality additions a 16-point gap behind Manchester City is not ideal for a club like United. While Jose Mourinho’s job is not under scrutiny just yet, the near future is quite uncertain. Luis Enrique will be one of the fresh faces who can bring in a different dynamic.
