West Ham United have recently secured the services of former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra. The club has confirmed on their official website that the Hammers have successfully sealed a move for the French defender on a short-term contract. The 36-year-old has won seven league titles and a UEFA Champions League title during his illustrious career which included spells at AS Monaco, Manchester United and Juventus. Evra has penned a contract with West Ham until the end of the current campaign and will wear the Number 27 shirt at the east London club. After being reunited with his former manager (from his time at Manchester United), the new Hammers signing expressed his delight of joining David Moyes’ revolution at West Ham and was quoted to have said,
“I’m really happy to be a Hammer, to be back in the Premier League and I love this game!”
“It’s amazing to be back and I am thankful to West Ham for giving me the opportunity to do my job. When I wake up and know I am going to work hard, to have fun with my teammates and give my best on the pitch, I want to say a massive thanks to West Ham, to the Chairman, to the manager to all my teammates, who have given me a nice welcome, my agent and my brother.
“I’m just happy to be here, it’s really simple. You don’t realise how lucky you are and just to wake up this morning and know I am going to train with my new teammates made me smile!”
With Patrice Evra already on their books, let’s take a look at three possible free agents who the Hammers can look to sign in the near future.
Alex Song
The former Arsenal midfielder is currently training with the Gunners and is working his way back to full fitness. A potential move for the Cameroonian could prove to be a shrewd piece of business by David Moyes. The Hammers might utilise someone of his experience at the heart of their midfield if they decided to opt for his services. At 30, Song still has a few years left in him to feature at the top level.
Samir Nasri
Another ex-Arsenal player who is currently a free agent and looking for a fresh challenge to reignite his career. A potential addition of someone of the calibre of Nasri can undoubtedly bolster David Moyes’ attacking options at the east London club. The French winger has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and has also represented France in 41 matches at the international stage, scoring 5 goals in the process. He can be an ideal fit under Moyes if the Hammers opted for his services as Nasri still has the ability to help the Hammers stay in the Premier League for the next few years.
Philipp Wollscheid
The 28-year-old German centre-back is a free agent at the moment and the Hammers will do well to snap him up. At 6ft 4inch, Wollscheid is a dominant presence at both ends of the field and could turn out to be a successful defender for West Ham for years to come, if Moyes gave him a chance to display his talents in the Premier League.
