Wolves are travelling to Craven Cottage for their EFL Championship fixture against Fulham on Saturday.
The expensively assembled Wanderers have dominated the entire second division this campaign and are well poised to take their talents to the Premier League next season. They are already busy scouting for further additions in the summer in what can be deemed to be already a well-built squad. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have drawn their last 2 league fixtures against Preston North End and Norwich City, 1-1 and 2-2, respectively.
Wolves had victory snatched from them with the last kick of the game at Molineux as Nelson Oliveira’s long-range right-foot shot earned Norwich City a dramatic point.
The hosts led 2-0 inside 25 minutes thanks to a Jamal Lewis own goal and an Alfred N’Diaye header.
Christoph Zimmermann’s 27th-minute header set up a tense second half.
And, when Wolves looked to have seen it through, substitute Oliveira let fly from 35 yards and it sneaked in.
With 73 points from after 33 game weeks, the team from Molineux Stadium who entered the New Year at the summit of the table will be buoyed by the fact that the last 12 teams to enter the New Year at the top, have all gone on to secure automatic promotion.
Fulham, on the other hand, are on the upward climb having won 3 of their last 5 league fixtures and drawn the other 2. They too had to share the spoils with Bristol City last night and the one game rest will turn out to be the key factor in Saturday’s outcome.
The Lillywhites are chasing promotion through the automatic promotion spots but are still 6 points behind Cardiff City in the 5th spot of the points table.
A win at home against the league leaders will not only push them ahead, but a bit of spice will be added to the final stretch of the season if Wolves’ lead gets cut to 6 points. Here is how the Wanderers might lineup on matchday.
Formation: 3-4-3
Defence
John Ruddy can be expected in goal for the match. The defensive three is likely to consist of on-loan player Willy Boly, Ryan Bennett and Conor Coady with captain Danny Batth.
Midfield
A midfield quartet of Matt Doherty, Barry Douglas, Alfred N’Diaye and Romain Saiss can be expected to fill up the middle of the park for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ruben Neves is suspended for this match.
Attack
Ivan Cavaleiro is expected to start on the right. He will be supported by star performer Diogo Jota in the number nine role. Helder Costa is expected to be the third attacker on the right.
