Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have not been consistent enough this season and find themselves having to end the season on a high, to cement their place in the top-4. They are just a point better of Spurs, who are in the 5th place and they cannot afford to drop too many points for the rest of the season. But they will travel to Old Trafford this weekend, in one of the most awaited games of the season.
Right in the middle of a tough fixture list for the Blues, this clash could have a serious effect on their league position at the end of the season and their recent record of two wins and two losses in their last two league games is not the ideal time to be facing such a tough test.
The Red Devils themselves have won just two of their last five games in all competitions and will look to make a point with a win in this game, cementing their place, next to Manchester City at the top of the table. Both teams might be cautious not lose but the visitors need all three points to stay in the race and here is the predicted lineup he might field for this tie:
Team News:
The Blues have no new injuries to worry about. David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko are both ruled out for this game along with Ross Barkley, who is stepping up his recovery.
Expected lineup (3-4-3):
Defense:
Thibaut Courtois has been solid at the back for Chelsea this season and will need to have a good game, away from home. Conte should stick with Andreas Christensen at the heart of the backline, with Cesar Azpilicueta on the right and Antonio Rudiger on the left.
They will not have an easy time, tracking a beast in Romelu Lukaku, who can change the course of the tie in no time.
Midfield:
N Golo Kante will have his work cut out, keeping Manchester United frustrated in the middle of the park. He has done a decent job in a two-man midfield and will be supported by his former Leicester City midfield partner Danny Drinwkater.
Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses will have huge roles to play if Chelsea are to take anything from this game. Their presence at both ends will be important for the visitors to test the hosts on the night.
Attack:
Alvaro Morata is fit to start and Conte might prefer to use him with Eden Hazard and Willian on the flanks, on either side, adding pace and creativity to the side.
Here is how they might line up:
