Besiktas are ready to offer Everton striker Cenk Tosun an escape route back to Turkish football. According to recent reports coming out of Merseyside, the Turkish forward has been offered an opportunity to make a switch back to Turkey by his former employers Besiktas less than two months after his move to Goodison Park.
Tosun has struggled to adapt his game to the high intensity and physicality of the Premier League since his reported £27m switch from Turkey which, to the surprise of many, was confirmed midway through the Blues’ FA Cup meeting with Liverpool on January 5. The Turkey international has fallen behind Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order at the Merseyside club with their manager Sam Allardyce revealing that it could take until next season before their supporters get to witness the best of their big-money winter signing. However, Besiktas vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi has admitted that the 26-year-old would be welcomed back with open arms if he decides to make a move back to his homeland. He was recently quoted to have said,
“I think he’s happy now, but at Besiktas, our doors are always open to him,”
“I would love him to come back in the future. And I think at one stage of his career, he will want a return to Besiktas because we have a brilliant atmosphere here, and players want to play for this shirt again.”
Cenk Tosun has scored 14 goals and 3 assists in 27 appearances this term in all competitions. He has also stated his desire to fight for his place under Sam Allardyce and establish himself as Everton’s first-choice striker in the coming years. In an interview earlier this month, Tosun was quoted to have said,
“I’ve zero interest going back to Turkey at this point.
“Yes I’m a Besiktas fan, but I’ll never return to them without fighting and achieving things in Everton. That’s not me.
“I’ll show everyone in England who is Cenk Tosun.”
The Toffees are currently in 9th place in the Premier League standings, just two points behind Burnley who are sitting in 7th place. The departure of Tosun could leave the Toffees’ squad significantly depleted if he leaves in the summer without getting a proper shot to show his talents in the Premier League. It is highly unlikely that the forward will part ways just six months after his move from Turkey. However, Big Sam could use the money generated from his sale to bring in a new attacking option in the summer transfer market to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the Premier League’s Top 6 clubs in the coming seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Tosun and whether he ends up making a move back to Turkish football.
