Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has departed the club on a loan deal for the remainder of the campaign. According to Daily Mail, the Reds have confirmed Lazar Markovic has signed for Anderlecht on loan until the end of the season. It is believed that a whole host of clubs were looking to recruit the Serbia international with both Wolfsburg and Swansea City leading the chase to land his signature on the transfer deadline day. However, the 23-year-old has ended up making a switch to Belgium to try and help Anderlecht make a late push for the league title following Wolfsburg and Swansea City’s failure to make a swoop for the Serbian.

Wolfsburg were pushing for a permanent transfer but failed to meet Liverpool’s asking price for Markovic while the Swans ditched their approach to loan Markovic, in favour of a move to re-sign Andre Ayew from West Ham United for £18million. The Serbian youngster has had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Hull City and Sporting Lisbon since being recruited by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014. He has left the club on a temporary basis once again after failing to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans this season.
Markovic has not made a single appearance for the Merseyside club this season. It is evident by the Reds’ treatment of the player that he doesn’t feature in Jurgen Klopp’s long-term plans at Anfield. However, the move to Anderlecht should do him a world of good as he can finally play regular first-team football. It remains to be seen if he can cease the opportunity and come back as a better player at the end of the season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently in 3rd place in the Premier League table at the back of a comfortable victory away at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night. They are sitting just above Chelsea, who are in the fourth spot with just goal difference separating the two teams. It doesn’t look like Markovic was in Klopp’s plans going into the second half of their campaign so a temporary loan move to Anderlecht can benefit all parties. The Reds could possibly look to prolong his stay at Anfield if he performs well while on loan in Belgium. Otherwise, it is increasingly likely that he will be moved on to greener pastures in the summer. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the Serbian winger and if his career at Anfield is finally over.
