West Ham United are lining up a move for former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri. According to recent reports in the English press, the Hammers are weighing up an offer for the former French international after talks about a possible transfer of Joao Mario stalled. The east London club was eager to land the signature of Mario following negotiations with Inter Milan last week. However, the initial talks have not been productive and some sources in the Italian media are now claiming that Nasri has emerged as an alternative option.
The former Premier League winner has already experienced English football during his time at Arsenal and Manchester City. The 30-year-old Frenchman is currently plying his trade in Turkish football with Antalyaspor and could be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in for the player this month. Nasri has made 8 appearances for Antalyaspor this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the Turkish Super Lig.
However, his contribution has not helped his side as they are struggling in 16th place in the top tier of Turkish football having only scored 20 goals in 18 league games so far.
West Ham United are currently in 11th place in the Premier League standings with a tally of 26 points in 22 league matches. Although, they are still not out of relegation trouble, sitting just 4 points above the drop zone. The Hammers has turned their fortunes for the better after the arrival of David Moyes in November last year. He is currently in the market for a right-sided midfielder following the injury of Michael Antonio who has been sidelined due to a calf problem in recent weeks.
With the east London club set to miss out on Joao Mario this month, Samir Nasri could be an ideal alternative for the Hammers to deploy in their midfield. The Frenchman is highly versatile and can operate in a number of positions across the midfield. He will undoubtedly be a great asset for David Moyes and can aid the club in their quest to avoid relegation at the end of the season. The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and knows what it takes to be a winner.
Nasri has made a total of 215 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 36 goals and providing 42 assists during his career. It remains to be seen whether David Moyes is successful in luring him to the Premier League before the end of this transfer period.
