According to Sky Sports, West Ham United are lining a move for RSC Anderlecht midfielder, Leander Dendoncker. David Moyes is currently scouting for quality additions in the midfield position to ensure another season in top-flight English football.
Dendoncker started his career with the football club of his local village, Passendale, before moving to the big leagues and start featuring for Anderlecht. With 1 assist in 29 total appearances for the Belgian outfit this season, Dendoncker is a regular starter under Hein Vanhaezebrouck and helped the side to win the 2016/17 league title. He signed with Anderlecht back in 2009 and has registered a whopping 156 appearances for the side in total. An immense amount of top-flight footballing experience.
He also got called up to the senior Belgium national side and has been capped four times already. The 22-year-old is a versatile presence around the football pitch and is capable of covering every blade of grass.
His primary role is that of a defensive midfielder but has the tenacity and discipline to appear as a centre back while also the creativity to play in the attacking midfield position.
Moyes is well aware of the imbalance the West Ham squad is suffering through with multiple strikers filling in the wage bills. He is eager to find a candidate who will be able to appear in the holding midfield role alongside Mark Noble. Pedro Obiang is a defensive option but lacks the quality to really drive the Hammers attack.
The former Manchester United manager got appointed to lead the relegation-riddled Hammers in November. Ever since his arrival, however, things have not changed completely. In a bid to survive in the top flight though, they did beat title contenders Chelsea 1-0 in December and are coming off an incredible run of zero losses in their last 5 league games.
Currently stacked in the 11th spot of the points table, 4 points above the relegation spots, United are favoured to survive the drop to the Championship. It is unclear whether he will be provided with the proper funds to pursue a high profile target like Dendoncker, but an addition is necessary with the second half of the season already upon us.
Anderlecht are demanding a price tag of over €20m for the talented maestro, which has been emphasized by the manager, Herman Van Holsbeeck. However, with the player hinting towards a club exit, it would be hard for the Division A side to hold onto his talents if the Hammers meet their asking price.
