West Brom are looking to sign out of favour Borussia Dortmund winger, Andre Schurrle on a loan move for the remainder of the season. Schurrle has fallen out of favour for the German outfit with just a measly 451 minutes of game time received so far into the season and the former Chelsea player is growing more and more frustrated as the days progress.
Making the Germany squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup is still in his career ambitions and by no means will he make it happen if continues to warm the benches of the German outfit. Schurrle won the 2014 World Cup after assisting Mario Gotze to the only goal of the final against Argentina. However, he might not get selected under Joachim Low if he fails to display his talents on the pitch.
Dortmund already possesses players who can appear in the same role as Schurrle in Christian Pulisic, Alexander Isak and Maximilian Philipp with Marco Reus making a comeback. This makes Schurrle’s future at the club uncertain until and unless he can carve out a role over the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal.
Spending majority of the season on the sidelines with injury, the former Chelsea player has failed to find his feet at the Westfalenstadion and has fallen way below the pecking order. Schurrle’s stint with the Blues ended in the summer of 2015 when the Ludwigshafen-born winger, moved to Wolfsburg for £24m. After an impressive 13 goals netted in 63 appearances, he moved to Dortmund for an undisclosed fee on 22 July 2016.
West Bromwich Albion are currently struggling in the relegation zone of the Premier League and finally ended their 21-game winless run with a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday and went on to draw 1-1 against Everton. Although things are looking a bit positive with two back to back wins in the league and the FA Cup, they are not out of the woods yet.
After the sacking of Tony Pulis, the Baggies really thought Alan Pardew will be the man to lead them out of this rut, but so far it has not been the case. With a lack of resources, the former Palace manager has struggled to make a significant change into the team.
If they want to save their campaign and escape relegation, Alan Pardew needs to infuse some talent and purpose into the team. Schurrle is a proven goalscorer who can bolster the squad ranks by playing in Albion’s final third. The injury to Nacer Chadili came as a huge blow and Schurrle can easily replace him on the left flanks.
