Watford are the latest side to be linked with RSC Anderlecht midfielder, Leander Dendoncker for a transfer move before the end of the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old is as versatile as any player can get and has the stamina to cover the entire pitch for the whole 90. A steam engine with both offensive and defensive qualities can always be marked as a team leader, in the future of course. Dendoncker’s creative abilities allow him to formulate attacks from deep. His talents are unfathomable and have quite deservedly drawn the eyes of a number of English sides.
Dendoncker career started off from humble backgrounds with the Belgian international signing up with his local village club, Passendale. The big leap to Anderlecht came in 2009 where he has registered a whopping 156 appearances so far. Nobody can dispute his experience in top-flight football.
With 1 assists in 27 total appearances for the Belgian outfit this season, Dendoncker is a regular starter under Hein Vanhaezebrouck and helped the side to win the 2016/17 league title. He also got called up to the senior Belgium national side and has been capped four times already.
Watford started off the season in scintillating form and at some point even matched strides with Leicester and Burnley for the 7th spot, but now it looks like they have run out of steam and a series of injuries to key players have really stunted their progress. They are currently staged at the 10th spot of the Premier League table after winning just one of their last eleven league games.
Marco Silva management style took a huge detour and according to some fans and critics, he was rightfully sacked by the Watford management. Who thought that their promising season would wither out so fast?
However all is not lost and now with Javi Gracia at the helm, the club is ready to resume their seasonal plans of finishing the season in the top half of the table, well away from the relegation zone.
Dendoncker can be fielded in the holding midfield role and provide competition to Ben Watson and Tom Cleverley. The side is currently suffering from injuries to some of their key players – Nathaniel Chalobah, Isaac Success and Will Hughes.
The Belgian’s talents will help the Hornets link up the rest of team better. Silva used to field his men in the 4-2-3-1 formation, but Gracia might opt to have more options in the heart of the park. However, will the Watford board agree to shell out £20m when they are prioritising a move for a goalscorer?
