Tottenham Hotspur are the new favorites to secure the services of Celtic forward Moussa Dembele. It is being reported that Spurs are on the lookout for a talented striker capable of partnering Kane or even replacing him in Pochettino’s starting eleven when the Englishman is out of action due to an injury or suspension. And the player who is catching their attention is believed to be Celtic’s French ace Moussa Dembele.
The 21-year-old forward has been linked with a whole host of clubs since arriving in Scottish football in the summer of 2016 and the North Londoners are currently favorites in the race to land the player’s signature. The United Kingdom bookmakers Sky Bet have made Spurs 5/1 favorites to sign the Hoops star with Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton and Inter Milan also chasing Mauricio Pochettino’s side on the hunt for his services.
Dembele has been prolific for Celtic since joining them from Fulham and scored 32 goals in just 49 matches for the Glaswegian club in the last campaign. Although he is still not at the same level as Harry Kane, the French forward has a lot of potential to grow and develop into a world-class striker in the near future.
His record this season has been mediocre with 8 goals and 3 assists in 21 matches for Celtic in all competitions. However, it shouldn’t be a worry for Spurs as he is bound to be surrounded by more quality in North London which will get the best out of the 21-year-old attacker if Pochettino is successful in his efforts to lure him away from Celtic Park.
Dembele is well known for his finishing and also his knack for creating goals in the opposition half which will make him a great addition to the Spurs squad. Tottenham are in 5th place in the Premier League standings and are three points away from a Champions League spot which is currently occupied by 4th placed Liverpool.
They put in a lackluster performance in their last league outing versus West Ham United at the Wembley Stadium and dropped two crucial points in the race to secure a top 4 finish at the end of the season. However, the departure of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona has significantly weakened their rivals, Liverpool and now, Spurs can fully capitalize on the situation by adding another attacking option to their talented lineup.
Dembele will surely give them an edge in their quest to secure Champions League football for next season. It remains to be seen whether the North Londoners make an official move for the talented French forward this month.
