Moussa Sissoko has recently cast doubt over his long-term future at Tottenham Hotspur after revealing his desire to go back to France. The 28-year-old initially struggled at Spurs since his move from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 but has managed to make his way into manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for this season. However, the French midfielder has recently expressed his desire to move back to France. In an interview with SFR Sport, Sissoko was quoted to have said:
“When I look at the French championship, yes I miss it a bit”.
“It was where I started, I have a lot of friends who still play [in Ligue 1], I think it would be nice to play against them.
“But at the same time, I’m very happy to be here, it’s [the Premier League] a championship I’ve always wanted to play in.”
He has featured regularly and has made 28 appearances for Spurs this season, scoring 2 goals and making 2 assists so far. With his long-term future at North London in doubt, let’s take a look at three midfield options for Tottenham Hotspur to consider in the near future.
Pizzi
The Benfica midfielder has been a consistent performer for his club in the last few seasons. He has already won the Europa League once and the Portuguese league thrice amongst other major honours. So the 28-year-old knows what it takes to win. He will be an ideal fit at Tottenham if they manage to prise him away from Portuguese football.
The Portuguese midfielder has made 27 appearances for his club in this campaign and has scored 2 goals while making 11 assists. His knack for creating goals might be a big asset for the Spurs in their quest to secure Champions League football for years to come.
Giacomo Bonaventura
The AC Milan midfielder has been in fine form for the Italian giants this season. The 28-year-old has featured in 22 matches for his team in all competitions and has scored 4 goals and made two assists so far. He will be a perfect fit in Mauricio Pochettino’s team if they manage to convince the Milan side to do business and his wealth of experience in Italian football will be a positive for Spurs as they aim to be a regular candidate in the Champions League.
Dani Parejo
The Valencia midfielder has been a regular feature for his side this season, notching up 18 appearances across all competitions while finding the back of the net four times and making 4 assists so far. The 28-year-old has been a midfield veteran for the La Liga club for multiple seasons and has a wealth of experience in Spain. Any potential move for the player will definitely boost Tottenham’s chances of securing a top-four spot in the coming years.
