Tottenham Hotspur are looking to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Lucas Moura. According to recent reports in the French media, the Brazilian is being monitored by the Spurs as well as Manchester United this month. It is believed that PSG are desperate to cash in on their prized asset before the January transfer window comes to a close at the end of the month with the Red Devils close to agreeing on a deal for the 25-year-old.
The Ligue 1 giants are in dire need to sell some of their sporadic players after the high profile summer signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Some sources have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs has enquired about the Moura’s availability this month and has held talks with PSG over the 25-year-old’s situation at the Parc des Princes. However, both Premier League clubs are only looking to sign the Brazilian on a loan deal in this transfer window.
In an interview back in October last year, Moura addressed some of the speculations linking him with a move abroad and said, ‘I am concentrating on improving my physical performance. Whatever the situation with the national team, that is Tite’s decision. I need to concentrate on improving at PSG.
‘The season began in a difficult way for me, but my aim is to win back my starting place and the great moments that I had last year.’
However, the landscape has changed since then with the midfielder struggling to find regular game time in manager Unai Emery’s PSG starting eleven. The Brazilian international has just made 6 appearances for the Parisians this season and has scored once and assisted once so far. He desperately needs to play regular football if he wants to represent his nation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup later this year.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently occupying 5th place in the Premier League standings, three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. Mauricio Pochettino is looking to recruit wisely in this transfer window to bolster his attacking options going into the second half of the season. The Spurs are still in with a chance of securing a top 4 place in the Premier League and are also looking to compete in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The potential addition of Moura may help them in their cause to secure Champions League for next season.
It remains to be seen if the north London club are successful in their attempts to fend off stiff competition from Manchester United in pursuit of the PSG star’s signature in January.
