Swansea City are looking to sign AFC Ajax winger Amin Younes. According to a reliable source in the Italian media, the 24-year-old is gathering attention from the Swans and could be set for a move to the Premier League this month. The German international moved to Ajax from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2015 and has only featured in 9 league matches for the Dutch club this season. His current contract with the Dutch giants is set to expire at the end of the season and a move abroad in January seems to be a likely resolution for both the club and the player.
Ajax could sell him for a cut-price fee this month or risk losing him for free in the summer. Younes played the whole 90 minutes in Ajax’s Europa League final defeat to Manchester United last season and would be a worthy addition to the Swans’ frontline which has failed to find any kind of consistency in this campaign. Since Carlos Carvalhal’s appointment last month, the Welsh club has picked up just four points in three Premier League matches and is yet to bring in any reinforcements in this January transfer window.
Swansea City currently finds themselves rock bottom of the Premier League standings with a tally of 17 points in 23 league matches. They are in dire need of some results with a home tie against a high-scoring Liverpool team coming up on Monday night. Carvalhal needs to turn their fortunes for the better if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop this season. The potential addition of Younes will definitely give them more options going forward which will aid them in their quest to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Younes has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 13 matches for AFC Ajax in all competitions this season. He came through the youth ranks at Borussia Mönchengladbach and has earned 5 international caps for the German national team. The 24-year-old winger is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He can play on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him an ideal asset for the Swans if they are successful in their efforts to lure him to the Premier League.
However, the winger has fallen down the pecking order at Ajax this term and there is no guarantee that he will be able to hit the ground running in the Premier League. It might take time for him to adapt at his new club so it provides a considerable risk for the Welsh club to opt for his signature as they prepare themselves for a tough second half of the campaign. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Younes.
