Swansea City is increasingly looking like a team that seems set on the drop. The players are looking demotivated and are now facing an uncertain period under new manager Carlos Carvalhal. Swansea has been terrible going forward and the strikers have returned with a paltry total of 13 goals in 22 games. It was reported Swansea City were interested to bring back Andre Ayew to solve their goal-scoring crisis. The Swans made a £14 million offer which was rejected by West Ham United. The transfer, had it gone through, would have seen Ayew return to his former club.
The Ghanian earned his name at Swansea City after scoring 12 goals and setting up 5 assists in 35 games was scooped up by West Ham in 2016 for £20.5 million. However, his time in London has been slightly more difficult given the plethora of attacking options at the London stadium.
Swansea City is now desperate to add another striker to the team to help their bid to stay afloat this season. Apart from Tammy Abraham, none of the players has been in a scoring form and Ayew could have been the solution Swansea needed to survive this season.
However, their attempts have been foiled by West Ham United who wants to hold on to their Ghanian. West Ham United fans had seen their team get off to a shaky start this season, to say the least. The fans knew that despite a change in manager, it was unlikely that things would change fast. Moyes however, set working with his team and has now brought them to a respectable position.
David Moyes will look to build on his good start to the New Year at West Ham United as he attempts to wash over his previous success and consequent failure and rewrite his credentials as a manager. Their current seven-match unbeaten run includes an impressive 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley and a 4-1 hammering of Huddersfield Town last week. The gloomy atmosphere around the new London stadium is a little less tentative now as the Scot attempts to find a new formula to take his side to a respectable position on the table come May.
Moyes’ stance to not sell Ayew despite the club assuring him of new signings this January shows their trust in the Scot to have a free reign. However, it is being reported that Swansea is set to come back with a higher bid for Ayew and whether Moyes will once again knock them back, remains to seem; especially if he gets a couple of new faces on board by then.
