Sunderland are willing to let their Australian defender Tom Beadling leave on a loan deal before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month. According to recent reports emerging from Tyneside, the Black Cats defender is expected to join Scottish Championship side Dunfermline in the coming days. The 22-year-old is set to move on a temporary basis for the remainder of the season, at which point his current contract with the Tyneside club will expire.
Beadling has not featured in a match for the Sunderland senior team but did make two appearances during his loan spell at League One side Bury last season. Dunfermline are currently trying to secure a promotion to the Scottish Premier League and are occupying the final playoff spot in the Scottish Championship. The Pars are being managed by former Sunderland player Allan Johnston.
Beadling will be the third Black Cats starlet to make a switch to the Scottish Championship in January, with Tommy Robson and Andrew Nelson already sealing their moves to Falkirk earlier this month.
Sunderland currently finds themselves in 22nd place in the Championship standings with a tally of just 25 points in 28 games. They are in real danger of getting relegated at the end of the season. Chris Coleman’s side are struggling to get any favourable results to go their way but has recently beaten Hull City at the Stadium of Light which will give them a ray of hope to get themselves out of relegation trouble.
They are just a point off the safe zone and could utilise all the help they can get in the near future. The potential departure of Tom Beadling to Scotland could leave them vulnerable as the matches come thick and fast and players become more susceptible to injuries going into the second half of the season. Coleman needs all the players at his disposal to try and mount a challenge to save themselves in the coming months. Beadling has featured in 14 matches in Premier League 2 and has scored a goal so far in this campaign.
However, with just six months left to run in his Sunderland contract, the Black Cats will do well to let him depart if he is not in their manager’s plans for the rest of the season. The Australian defender might be able to reignite his career playing in the second tier of Scottish football. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Beadling.
