Reports have surfaced linking Brighton & Hove Albion to Leicester City’s Andy King who has fallen behind the pecking order under Claude Puel. With just 5 starts in the league this season, his future with the Foxes is uncertain and a struggling Brighton can provide him with the necessary escape.
Andy King developed his game in the Chelsea youth ranks but was released when he was 15-years-old. It was Leicester who provided him with the opportunity to make it in the English game and signed him up immediately at the time. A product of the club’s academy, King is one of the club’s oldest serving players currently and is a huge name among the fans at King Power Stadium.
He has been named the club’s player of the year on two occasions and has been a key figure over the years to win the EFL League One, EFL Championship and the Premier League titles. Maybe an unsung hero but still a hero, King’s career with the Foxes have hit an all-time low and now that Adrien Silva has arrived it is unlikely to improve.
The Barnstaple-born midfielder is a versatile presence in the middle of the pitch and can cover both ends of the pitch. He can fill out the number 10 role, behind the lone striker as well as fulfil his defensive duties from deeper positions. King has been capped at international level for the Wales national team 44 times making him the player with the most international experience in the Leicester city ranks.
Brighton were the victims of another blowout performance from Chelsea last night as the visitors thrashed them to a 4-0 loss. The Seagulls got completely outclassed defensively and failed to convert their all important but rare chances against the title contenders. The side has struggled to find the back of the net with just 17 goals scored in 23 games. That formula might not cut it for the rest of the season, and an attacking addition is necessary to successful escape relegation.
An ageing Glen Murray is clubs highest goal scorer with 5 goals followed by Pascal Groß. The struggle to find the back of the net is a growing concern around the Falmer Stadium. In order to ensure survival in top-flight English football, they need a player like Andy King to link up the forwards with the rest of the team. His distribution skills will definitely help the strike force by putting an end to their goal drought.
