English teenager Reece Oxford has returned to West Ham United from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach. The highly-rated teenager has come through the youth ranks in West Ham and has impressed on his various loan spells. Oxford was not ready to settle for a squad place last summer and made his move to German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
After making a slow start to his life in Germany, the talented defender made his way into the team and started three games for the club in December alone. He has now returned to London and awaits a decision on his future. With his transfer fee reported to be in the region of around £15 million here are three clubs who can bring in the defender this January.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace had the worst possible start to the season. It eventually led to the sacking of manager Frank De Boer and the Dutchman was replaced by Roy Hodgson.
The concern in the attack has now been resolved with the team’s attention turning towards the defence. Scott Dann, an integral member of the Crystal Palace team has suffered a serious injury and is possibly facing a nightmare situation of spending the rest of the season on the sidelines. To further complicate matters, his defensive partner, Mamadou Sakho, Crystal Palace’s expensive £26 million summer signing from Liverpool also faces time on the sidelines. However, Sakho’s calf strain injury is not that serious and the ex-Liverpool man is expected to return soon. Hodgson who had previously claimed that defensive signing was not his priority might have changed his stance following the latest injuries. In this light, Reece Oxford can be a good solution for the club.
West Ham United
Fortune has swung its way around the Hammers as the London outfit, after being winless in nine matches turned things around. The gloomy atmosphere around the new London stadium is a little less tentative now as Moyes attempts to find a new formula to bring his side back to a fighting place in the league. With Moyes already having a plethora of attackers, he will want to strengthen his defence and keeping hold of Reece Oxford will potentially save him a good money which he can use on other players.
Newcastle United
With the January transfer window coming up, Newcastle will look to seek redemption in the market after failing to register quality, new players in the summer. Rafael Benitez has made no secret of the fact that Newcastle United need new players. However, with Newcastle unable to sell their existing crop of players, Newcastle has had to deal with a stagnant squad and that has frustrated Benitez. Reece will provide an option for Benitez for not just now but a player for the future as well and Rafa will want to snap up the player should he get the chance.
