Italian news outlet, Calciomercato has reported that Real Madrid have now shifted their attention towards AS Roma’s Alisson Becker. The Spanish giants are in the market for a quality shot-stopper to Keylor Navas in between the sticks and would not shy away from splashing an astronomical fee to get their man.
Ever since Iker Casillas left the club back in 2014 fans at Santiago Bernabeu have seen a number of familiar faces get shifted around in the position over the years, but nobody could cement a permanent spot. The case is similar with current keepers, Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla. Navas is the first choice under Zidane and is definitely a prolific talent, but the 31-year-old suffers from bouts of inconsistency.
Florentino Perez’s search for the perfect shot-stopper has not gone seamlessly either over the past year. Thibaut Courtois’s recent statements revealed that the Belgian is eager to stay with Chelsea and is very close to signing a new deal with the club. A move for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga also hit a rough patch when the 23-year-old failed the medical test at Los Blancos and is expected to be out of action until March.
This is definitely a concern for the Galactico fans who are currently dealing with the team’s struggle in the La Liga. A 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo last week has opened up a 16 point gap between the club and rivals Barcelona who are the current league leaders. Conceding the title to their direct rivals will not sit well with the Madrid board but they can still salvage the season with another Champions League trophy.
Allison arrived at the Serie A side in the summer of 2016 as a backup to Wojciech Szczęsny. But ever since the Polish international left for Juventus, Allison has fought his way to the primary option in between the sticks. He has recorded 16 clean sheets in 40 appearances with the club so far and is definitely a perfect answer to Liverpool’s defensive troubles.
His efforts have seen Roma turn out to be heavy title contenders this season although they have fallen way behind Inter Milan and Juventus in the points table.
Maybe Madrid should pursue the Brazilian’s services aggressively against the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. A promise of a Champions League trophy will definitely raise the interests of Alisson who has claimed that he is very happy at Roma. Not only will he earn himself a lucrative deal, playing for Madrid will definitely give him the exposure he needs to cement a spot on the Brazilian national team.
