Reports have emerged linking Rangers striker, Alfredo Morelos to the Chinese Super League after the club received a bid of £6.5M from GZ Evergrande FC. The Gers have rejected the offer and are only willing to sell the 21-year-old for £10m.
Former Rangers manager, Pedro Caixinha got Morelos to the Ibrox stadium for £1.1m in the summer of 2017 and the Colombian has hit the ground running this season. He has racked up an impressive tally of 13 goals in 27 all round appearances and is currently the leading scorer of the Scottish Premiership. Morelos has turned himself the lethal threat that he is today through hard work and determination. His rise from the youth ranks of HJK Helsinki might help Rangers bag a deal which will see them earn ten times than what they had initially paid for him.
The fans at Ibrox Stadium are pleased to see their side contending for the league title after winning promotion last year but on the other hand, will be disappointed to see Celtic win their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership trophy.
They are 11 points behind their rivals in the second spot of the points table and while the chase is almost an impossible task, they remain hopeful. They are coming off a 1-2 win against Ross County last night and are well staged to continue their winning run. Losing their star forward might not be in their best interests and that might somehow affect the transfer deal in the January window.
Rangers manager Graeme Murty was quoted, “Unless someone walks in with a big barrowload, he will be a Rangers player. I want players who have aspirations to be in a better place.”
Plenty of big names have made their way out of Europe and towards China. Brazilian duo, Hulk and Oscar got signed up to Shanghai SIPG on multi-million dollar deals. Such is the trend currently – if you make it in Europe, the bosses of Super League clubs are willing to splash astronomical amounts of cash to land their services.
However, Morelos is still just 21 and has yet to experience the full force of top-flight football in Europe. If he performs well for Rangers, who knows maybe serious interests will start dropping in from the biggest leagues of Europe – Premier League, La Liga and the Bundesliga. On the other hand, the Chinese outfit might be able to offer him a more lucrative deal and that turns out to be a major difference maker majority of the times.
