Rangers are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings. According to a report in the English press, the Glaswegian club are planning to make a £1m bid for the Scottish forward. The 22-year-old signed for the Championship club last summer from Hibernian for a fee in the region of £1m and has impressed with some of his performances since then. The Forest ace has gone on to score 4 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions so far. Mark Warburton was responsible for bringing Cummings into the club during the summer transfer window, but after his recent sacking, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Scottish international.
Some sources claim that Rangers boss Graeme Murty is concerned about his lack of attacking options at the club following Kenny Miller’s injury this season and considers Cummings as a perfect addition to bolstering his attack going into the second half of the season. The 22-year-old could turn out to be a shrewd signing for Rangers as he already has a wealth of experience in Scottish football from when he used to play for Hibernian.
His goalscoring record against Rangers is nothing short of remarkable. Cummings has scored 8 goals against the Scottish giants during a two-year period and now, the Rangers fans will be hoping that he can show the same productivity for them against other big clubs as well.
Cummings broke into the Hibernian first-team in 2014 after impressing with their Under 20 side. He has gone on to score 71 goals and make 23 assists in 149 appearances for Hibernian FC since then. His incredible record in Scottish football is what prompted Nottingham Forrest to move in for the forward and now, he is set for a return back to Scotland if Rangers are able to secure his services. If the 22-year-old can show the same form that he displayed at Hibernian, then the Rangers fans will be in for a treat and a realistic title challenge next season might not be too far-fetched.
Rangers are currently sitting in third place in the Scottish Premiership table and find themselves a massive 11 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Celtic FC. One of the major reasons why they have fallen behind in the title race is the fact that Graeme Murty’s men have only managed to score 33 goals so far which is 15 goals less than what the Hoops have scored this season. The addition of Cummings can go a long way to bridging that gap.
It remains to be seen whether Rangers are successful in their attempts to secure the 22-year-old’s signature.
