Rangers have received a huge boost in this January transfer window as they are set to welcome back some of their loanees back at the Ibrox Stadium. Rangers boss Graeme Murty has had limited options at his disposal recently with a number of key players like Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Kenny Miller, and Lee Wallace all sidelined due to injuries. However, some players like Jamie Barjonas has benefited from the club’s lack of options with a number of first-team run-outs already under his belt. This has definitely helped the player in his development and Rangers will hope that they can reap the rewards in the near future.
The additions of Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy this month will bolster their options going into the second half of the season. And so will Joe Dodoo, Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran who will all be returning from their respective loans which will give this Rangers side a much-needed boost in their quest to finish as high as possible in the Scottish Premiership league standings.
Celtic are currently leading the Championship by 8 points with Rangers sitting in third place, a massive 11 points behind their rivals. Although their loyal supporters won’t want to admit defeat in the title chase, realistically they are in a fight to finish in the runners-up spot with Aberdeen who are 3 points ahead of them.
When the going gets tough during the business end of the season when every point will have a huge significance in the race for the title, having a strong squad will help Graeme Murty’s men cope with injuries and suspensions better in their efforts to put up a good fight this season. They can make use of O’Halloran’s pace in the opposition half while Halliday is a far better player that he was two and half years ago. His abilities can be a real asset at the Ibrox Stadium.
Joe Dodoo is a big striker and can be deployed as a lone target man up top. All of these returning loanees is expected to get an opportunity to impress under Graeme Murty and can look to reignite their career by desperately trying to break into Murty’s first-team. The addition of Goss and Murphy along will all the talented youngsters already at the club is surely going to give Murty a massive boost with more options to choose from.
It’s safe to say that Rangers are in a far healthier position now than they were last month but it remains to be seen how their manager Murty manages to keep all of these players satisfied and gets the best out of them.
