Rangers are set to lose defender Danny Wilson with the centre-back looking set for a move to Colorado Rapids and will undergo a medical on Friday. According to recent reports in the English press, the Scottish defender will have his medical with the Major League Soccer side on Friday ahead of a move across the Atlantic.
Wilson was not used in the Gers’ 2-0 win against Aberdeen on Wednesday night which helped Graeme Murty’s side climb above Aberdeen to second place in the Scottish Premiership table. He has been a regular starter for Rangers this season and featured in 15 matches for the club, scoring 3 goals and providing one assist in all competitions. However, his contract is up in the summer and no agreement has been reached between the club and the player so far which has led to Wilson leaving the club for a move to the States.
The MLS outfit are keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of their new campaign and has been backed by Arsenal’s biggest shareholder Stan Kroenke. With the former Liverpool defender set to leave the Gers, let’s take a look at three alternatives for Graeme Murty to consider this month.
Mark Durnan
The Dundee United centre-back has been a rock at the back for his club this season. He has featured in 23 matches for the Tangerines, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists across all competitions this term. The 25-year-old is versatile and can play as a centre-half or as a right-back which makes him an ideal fit for the Gers as they look to consolidate their players as the runners-up of the Scottish Premiership this season.
Brad McKay
The Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC centre-back has put some strong performances for his side in the second tier of Scottish football. He has played in 29 matches for the Inverness side, scoring 2 goals and making 3 assists in all competitions so far. Although he is still relatively unknown in world football, the Glaswegian club Rangers can take a low-risk gamble on him and reap the rewards in the coming years.
Declan Gallagher
The 26-year-old Livingston FC centre-half is another impressive talent plying his trade in the second tier of Scottish football. He has featured in 23 matches for the Lions but is yet to score this season. However, he has been a rock at the backline which has helped his club climb to fourth place in the Scottish Championship standings.
