As per one of the recent reports by Daily Record, Rangers had made a bid of £350,000 a few days ago to sign Kilmarnock’s wide man, Jordan Jones, which was rejected by Kilmarnock’s manager, Steve Clarke. Jones still has eighteen months left in his contract and the Killie value him in the £1million bracket, and thus, it goes without saying that the Gers will have to improvise their offer if they want to lure Jones to the Ibrox Stadium this month.
After the departure of Pedro Caixinha, Rangers have fared in a decent manner under the stewardship of Graeme Murty, with their last outing in the Scottish Premiership ending in a goalless draw against their arch-rivals Celtic. Despite earning only a solitary point, Murty’s troops must have taken a lot of positives from the game. They are currently placed at the 3rd spot in the league table with 40 points to their name from 22 games, but they should up the ante after the break.
With the January transfer window still wide open, the Light Blues must beef up their arsenal to better their credentials in the coming months. They have already signed Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Russell Martin on loan for the rest of the season and launching an improved bid to sign Jones would make a lot of sense. Jones started out as a youth player for Middlesbrough but despite his loan spells with Hartlepool United and Cambridge United, he wasn’t able to engineer a prominent place for himself in the senior side of the Smoggies.
In the summer of 2016, he was lured to the Rugby Park and he has managed to be quite an instrumental player for them ever since his move from the Riverside Stadium. He operates with tremendous pace and dazzling trickery and creates compelling goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. He has scored 3 goals in 20 appearances in Scottish Premiership so far this season and his dribbling and passing qualities are also quite exceptional.
He might not be very good in the air and many times, he is found caught in two minds in the final third but he is still young and is seemingly likely to develop more in the coming seasons. The Light Blues do need some cutting edge from the wide areas and arguably, the targeted Northern Ireland international, who has notable experience of Scottish football, should be able to offer the same if a deal materialises.
