Norwich City are close to signing a deal for prolific SC Paderborn poacher Dennis Srbeny. According to recent sources in the English media, the Canaries are on the verge of sealing a move for the German centre-forward as he flies to England to complete the transfer. The 23-year-old is the top scorer of the third division in Germany and has reportedly not trained with his teammates on Wednesday. It is believed that the Championship club is set to finalise a deal for a fee in the region of £1m this month.
SC Paderborn has confirmed on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with an undisclosed Championship side over the transfer of their centre-forward with Srbeny set to pen a deal which will keep him at Carrow Road until 2021. The 3.Liga ace could be one of the three German-based players being transferred in by the Canaries ahead of their away clash versus Brentford. Onel Hernandez looks like he will be unveiled on Thursday, after sealing a switch from Eintracht Braunschweig, and Norwich are also on the lookout for FC Augsburg’s highly-rated midfielder Moritz Leitner on loan deal this month.
Srbeny’s club were hesitant to let him leave after the striker banged in 9 goals and made 9 assists in 19 matches for SC Paderborn this season in all competitions. However, the German forward was eager to make a switch to Carrow Road before the end of this transfer window and now looks set to get his way this month.
In an interview with a Westfalen-Blatt newspaper, SC Paderborn coach Steffen Baumgart was quoted to have said, “Dennis is an important part of our team, but I am firmly convinced that we can achieve our goals without him. We will continue on our way.”
Srbeny has a year and a half remaining on his current deal with the tier 3 German club and has been in sensational form at Paderborn since joining them from BFC Dynamo last summer, where he found the back of the net 18 times in 33 appearances in Regionalliga North, which is the fourth tier of German football. He has also played for Hansa Rostock’s second team earlier in his career.
Norwich City boss Daniel Farke will be hoping that the forward can make an immediate impact in his first-team and can continue his prolific form of late in the Championship. The Canaries are currently in 13th place in the league table, nine points behind a playoff spot. It remains to be seen whether the German forward can bang the goals in at Carrow Road in the near future.
