It is now being reported that Jarrod Bowen could be on his way to Newcastle United. The Magpies are reportedly scouting the Englishman alongside a host of English clubs like Everton, Brighton and Burnley.
Under Benitez, the club enjoyed fine success in the Championships last season. They went on to top the league on their way to the Premier League this time. However, things have gone wrong once again at the club. With Mike Ashley unwilling to spend on new players back last summer, Benitez has been stuck with the same group of footballers at the club.
Their form has naturally suffered and the club now is on the 15th place in the table having collected 10 of their last 45 points. Benitez is set to make breakthroughs this January with Kenedy having already joined them on loan and Bowen being scouted.
Should the Englishman come, he will definitely add some firepower up front and his goal scoring touch could help Newcastle earn some valuable points to stay up this season. The 21-year-old scored the first and created the second for Hull City’s 2-1 FA Cup 5th Round win on Saturday.
The Tigers manager, Nigel Adkins is unwilling to let go of the talented attacker. He was quoted, “You just don’t sell him. We’re not looking to sell him. We’re not looking to sell Bowen, we want to build things at City. We have to keep looking to the future and we don’t want to let young players go.”
Bowen started his career with Hereford United at the age of just 16. He has racked up 12 goals this season in 29 all around appearances and has a contract that runs till 2020.
Keeper David Marshall, Hull’s captain, had words of caution. ‘I am sure Jarrod will get a move but I don’t think this is the right time for him,’ said Marshall.
‘He’s doing well, scoring goals and the rewards will come. Not that anyone can guarantee Bowen won’t attract irresistible interest in the last week of the window, not even boss Nigel Adkins with his ‘I’m not selling’ declaration.
Marshall’s advice to his manager: ‘Don’t answer the phone! It doesn’t surprise me that Jarrod has top clubs watching him. Let’s hope we can get to Wednesday.’
Should Bowen move, it would definitely be a big jump for the player and it remains to be seen if he can adjust to the pace and level of the English Premier League.
