Not every day can the newspapers report over a possible transfer from Real Madrid to Newcastle United. However, the latest round of news in the rumour mill is seeing the 23-year-old Galactico Marcos Llorente linked with a move to Newcastle United.
Real Madrid already has a host of midfield talent in their squad in the form of Marco Asensio, Isco, Luka Modric, Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic who can all play through the centre. Asensio and Isco are supposedly the future of the club and Kroos and Casemiro form the crux of the current team and are expected to be the backbone of the midfield for the coming years. However, with Modric at the dusk of his career and Ceballos unable to settle in, Kovacic is set to become a vital member at Santiago Bernabeu over the years. This leaves no place in the team for Marcos Llorente.
The youngster impressed with his time at Leganes when he was on loan there last season. However, he has been unable to regain his place or form this season under Zidane, leaving the player on the fringes of the first-team. A move to a smaller club would nicely see him get more game time and try and return to top form.
Newcastle United endured a mixed start to their campaign in England’s top league. After a quick start, Newcastle United flopped and their loss in form saw them sink to the lower end of the table. They managed to pause their slump and hold their form, something which saw the club move back to a respectable position in the league.
But another slump saw Newcastle slide down again. They now stand 15th in the table and have collected just 10 of their last 45 available points. In a league where results after each match week can send a club relegation to top ten, Newcastle will have to continue their fight if they wish to stay afloat this season.
On the transfer front, things have been very jittery and unplanned. After a very impressive season in the Championships that saw Newcastle return to the Premier League, Benitez demanded more signings of Premier League standard to establish the club in England’s premier competition. However, with Newcastle unable to sell their existing crop of players, Newcastle has had to deal with a stagnant squad and that has frustrated Benitez. With the January transfer window coming to a close, Benitez will look to go through with fresh transfer dealings to help his team improve.
The Magpies have already signed Kenedy from Chelsea on loan and are looking at a few more possibilities before the transfer window slams shut, making Llorente an ideal signing.
