Reports have surfaced that Turkish side, Fenerbahce are interested in obtaining the services of Daley Blind from Manchester United. Fenerbahce were desperate for a left-back before the start of the season and are monitoring the Dutchman’s prospects under Jose Mourinho. Aykut Kocaman has led the Turkish giants up the points table to contend for the league title and would be thrilled to have a talent like Daley Blind in the side. The 27-year-old is more of a rotational option for Mourinho is no longer considered in the left-back position behind the likes of Ashley Young and Luke Shaw.
Currently, Mourinho is going through the transfer market to sign a proven left-back. He has previously admitted the position has given him a few headaches and Ashley Young is his best choice at the moment. Young has been deployed as a makeshift option ahead of Matteo Darmian and Blind and this should tell you all you need to know about the Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford. A move to the Turkish side might turn out to be an ideal step towards the next stage of his career.
Louis van Gaal processed the transfer of Blind to United in the summer of 2014 and greatly relied on his talents during his tenure at the side. However, things have changed in recent times. Blind does not possess the burst of pace or a lethal tackling ability to really mark himself out to be one of the best wing backs. The basic criteria for the wide man in the modern game is to be ridiculously fast in order to keep up with elite talents and even with the remarkable left-foot Blind often fails to tick the boxes.
However, Blind is a leader and is a versatile presence. He can be fielded in the midfield position as well as a centre defender. His footballing intelligence paired with top class technical ability makes him one of the rare talents who can lead the team’s attacks all the way from their own box.
Blind was impressive on the international stage in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and lead the side to a third-place finish with a goal against Brazil in the final match.
He is still valued at his national side and even though Fenerbahce is not at par with the pace of the Premier League, Blind can really make himself a key figure in the squad and help side to in their Champions League campaign next season.
