Manchester United are reportedly set to prepare an offer for Brazilian winger Lucas Moura to sign him from Paris Saint Germain. Lucas joined Paris Saint Germain after a lot of hype in the summer of 2012 with Manchester United also chasing his signature. Paris ended up luring the player after paying €45m for his services, an amount Sir Alex Ferguson felt was unnecessary for such a young player. He has gone on to make 228 appearances for the club and has scored 46 goals and created 48 more in those matches.
The big money signing was expected to become one of the best midfielders in the world but the little winger with an excellent dribbling skill is yet to live up to his potential. Lucas is incredibly light on his feet and has good enough ball control and pace to cause any defence problems on his night.
PSG spent mind-boggling money in transfers during the summer and hence are likely to list a host of big names on their selling list to balance the books. Hence it will be a likely possibility to see Lucas pack his bags this January for any other destination.
The arrival of players like Neymar, Mbappe, Draxler and Di Maria over the last two seasons has seen Lucas lose his first-team chances. With the Brazilian falling down the pecking order, a move for the winger could be possible for Manchester United.
Lucas is also supposedly being chased by Chinese Super league sides but the winger would prefer a move within Europe. Lucas still feels he can make the cut to the Brazil squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and hence moving to China is not an option right now for the Brazilian.
As for Mourinho’s Manchester United, the Red Devils have already spent over a 150 million pounds this season in recruiting new talent. They were however still shy of one player and the team from the red half of Manchester were in the market for a winger over the summer. Having another talented winger next to the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the league which Mourinho knows inside out will propose a daunting prospect for the opposition.
Lucas will complete the team, consisting of the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and it would be a perfect addition to Mourinho’s squad although Lucas game time would go up, it is unlikely to increase by a great margin.
