The Real Madrid chapter for Cristiano Ronaldo might come to an end in the coming weeks according to the Mirror. The decorated Galactico was spotted in the United Kingdom a month back looking for living quarters as well as a private school for Cristiano Jr.
Ronaldo has allegedly fallen out with club president, Florentino Perez over talks of a pay rise and the club’s pursuit of Neymar by providing him with a more lucrative deal. Obviously, this does not sit well with the 32-year-old who has been matching strides with Lionel Messi for the past decade.
Ronaldo has reportedly admitted that he does not wish to renew his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and wants the Madrid board to lower his release clause to £90m. The Portuguese icon, widely regarded as one of the best players football has ever seen, moved to Madrid back in 2009. Real Madrid forked out a fortune back then for him to lure him away from Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United by making the most expensive player in the world.
He has since gone on to win the best player of the year on five occasions and become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer in the process. His eight-year stay at Madrid has seen him become an icon at the Bernabeu and Ronaldo’s goal-scoring feat has helped Real Madrid win every possible trophy available in club competition.
Ronaldo, who turned 32 this year is slowly entering the final phase of his career and having confirmed that he is not seeking a new contract, Real Madrid will need to scout for possible replacements for the iconic Portuguese forward.
Manchester United are already heavy favourites to land the services of Gareth Bale over the interests of his former club, Tottenham Hotspur. Florentino Perez has lost his patience with the Welshman and is eager to cash in on him while he is still relatively young.
Bale fits the bill as to what Mourinho wants. The Portuguese manager has been crying out for a winger ever since the signing of Ivan Perisic failed. The right-wing has seen the likes of Juan Mata Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan get fielded there this season.
Ronaldo is no longer the fast-paced youngster with sublime dribbling abilities that he once was. Almost converted to the role of a striker, the Euro Cup winner is a better presence inside the box rather than in the wide areas.
His remarkable goal scoring tally has taken a hit this year which can be attributed to his age and piled up fatigue over the years. However, when asked about it he has denied all claims of slowing down and quite rightly so.
The former Sporting CP winger just won the FIFA Best Player Of The Year award and is hungry to add more silverware to his legacy. His talents are next to none and will be welcomed with loud chants from the stands of Old Trafford.
