Manchester City have signed Kevin De Bruyne to a contract extension which will see the Belgian pocket £280,000 every week along with a £70,000 bonus until the summer of 2023. He was quoted,”It was a pretty easy decision.”
“Not only are we winning – we are playing great football. It’s a pleasure to be a part of and I’m really excited about what we can achieve in the coming years.”
The fans at the Etihad will be thrilled over the direction the club is headed towards and De Bruyne’s extension only accentuates that further. An ageing David Silva is still one of the best-attacking midfielders in the Premier League but is an injury concern. The dual pairing of Silva and De Bruyne is almost unguardable on their best days and has dominated the City offence time and again this season.
De Bruyne is enjoying one of his best seasons in a City shirt with 13 assists and 8 goals in 32 appearances. The 26-year-old’s scintillating run of form is a testament to his relentless work ethic to improve his game at every opportunity. Hailed as one of the best players in the English game all that De Bruyne needs to do now is add trophies to his giant cabinet especially the illustrious Champions League.
Guardiola, in his tenure with the club, has transformed the side completely with top talents in almost every position. A more developed and refined form of tiki-taka has been implemented with De Bruyne as the talisman to carry it out.
The Belgian’s current extension will hopefully fend off interests from European powerhouses like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich even if they come up with a record-breaking offer.
Pep Guardiola is already eyeing the quadruple now that they are breezing through the league with a 13 point lead at the top and are favourably stacked against FC Basel in the round of 16 of the European competition. They are almost through to the final stages of the EFL League Cup and the FA Cup has already seen their defending champions, Arsenal bow out.
To most English sides this might be a cause for concern but with the attacking lineup that Pep has allocated, the future looks incredibly promising for the Citizens. Kevin De Bruyne is the maestro who’s the greatest asset is his vision to find teammates all over the pitch. Gabriel Jesus, Kun Aguero and Raheem Sterling have thrived with such quality distribution from the midfield positions.
De Bruyne is a heavy regret in the hearts of Chelsea fans. After failing to appear for the senior side, the 26-year-old took his talents to Germany on a season-long loan to Werder Bremen. His return to Chelsea, however, turned sour with then manager, Mourinho dubbing him as not good enough.
