Manchester City have emerged as the new destination for New York City winger, Jack Harrison after the club rejected Stoke City’s £3.25m bid earlier this month. He is reportedly price at over £4m by the Major League Soccer outfit – a pocket pincher for a Premier League giant like Manchester City.
Jack Harrison started his footballing career in the youth ranks of Liverpool and Manchester United before shifting to the United States at the age of 14. He played for Manhattan Soccer Club for three years before entering the 2016 MLS Draft where he was chosen as the number 1 overall pick by the Chicago Fire.
An injury to the pelvic bone saw him get traded to New York City for a certain amount of allocation fee where he made his debut in the club’s 0-7 loss to New York Red Bulls on 21st May 2016. The 21-year-old has been lighting the league on fire ever since his arrival and was nominated to win the Rookie Of The Year.
With 14 goals in 61 outings for the Pigeons, Harrison is one of the hottest young prospects for the England national team. He has been capped for the U21 side and in order to compete for a spot in the senior team a move to the Premier League is highly necessary.
Manchester City’s strike force has been left a bit short-handed currently after Kelechi Iheanacho’s departure to Leicester City last summer and Gabriel Jesus picking up a long-term injury earlier in the season. Kun Aguero has picked up the slack and has resumed his incredible record in front of goal slotting in 23 in all around 29 appearances this season.
For a club who are competing for a quadruple in a single season, squad depth might be one of the most important requirements. Pep Guardiola has expressed his interests in making further additions to keep their seasonal ambitions alive. He has conceded defeat in the Alexis Sanchez transfer but is not ready to rule out his chances in the January transfer window just yet.
Obtaining the services of a youngster like Harrison will definitely secure the future of the club and in order to not hinder his development, the Citizens are prepared to let the winger leave on loan to Middlesbrough. The EFL Championship side are chasing a Premier League promotion through the playoffs. The loan spell to Boro will allow Harrison to break into the English game by playing the gruelling final stretch of the season.
