Manchester City are lining up a move for AS Monaco youngster Benoît Badiashile. According to recent reports in the English media, the Citizens of Manchester are ready to pounce on the French wonderkid’s signature before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month. However, Pep Guardiola’s side could face competition from their crosstown rivals Manchester United and Barcelona in pursuit of the teenage centre-back’s services. Monaco won the Ligue 1 title last season but went on to lose the services of Kylian Mbappe to Paris Saint-Germain, while Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva signed for Manchester City.
Some sources are now claiming that they could lose another one of their promising talents with Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United being touted as the potential destinations for the youngster. However, City’s local rivals United are the only side to have tabled an official bid for the French starlet so far. This means that Pep Guardiola’s side will need to act fast or else risk losing out to the red half of Manchester.
It is believed that the Ligue 1 outfit wants to tie Badiashile down to a new long-term professional contract but if City can move in quickly, then they might be able to lure him to Manchester.
The Blues of Manchester are currently leading the Premier League table with a tally of 65 points in 24 league matches. They are in cruise control to secure another league title at the top tier of English football with a massive 12 point advantage over their nearest rivals Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola’s men are still competing in four different competitions, having already secured a passage to the final of the League Cup while also getting through to the fifth round draw of the FA Cup. The Citizens will go head to head with FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages as well so their quest of achieving an unprecedented quadruple is still well and truly on the cards.
The potential addition of Badiashile will definitely help them build for the future as he can be an ideal asset to nurture in their world-class academy. Pep Guardiola has already shown his faith in giving young players a chance as evidenced by the emergence of Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Aleksander Zinchenko among many others this season. It remains to be seen whether they are successful in fending off stiff competition in pursuit of the promising French youngster’s signature.
