Manchester City sealed their passage to the Carabao Cup final with a 5-3 aggregate win over Bristol City. Having won the first leg 2-1, Man City were virtually in the final after Leroy Sane scored 2 minutes from half-time to give City the lead on the night and a 2 goal cushion on aggregate. Aguero cemented the Citizens’ spot at Wembley 4 minutes into the second half with a great finish from a tight angle.
Bristol battled back as goals from Marlon Pack in the 64th minute and Aden Flint 4 minutes into stoppage time looked to have earned them a draw on the night, but it wasn’t to be as Kevin de Bruyne scored on the break shortly after with the final kick of the game to send City to their first final under Pep Guardiola.
This is how the Manchester City players are rated in their win against Bristol City.
Claudio Bravo- 6.5/10
Looked at his calm best, with some neat footwork and confident handling. Didn’t seem to fluster at all as the Bristol forwards tried to press him into an error.
Kyle Walker- 6.5/10
More impetus on him in the absence of Sterling on his flank. Although he was industrious, his final ball was lacing.
Nicolas Otamendi- 7/10
Great on the ball, and solid defensively. Didn’t allow the Bristol attackers get the better of him all day.
John Stones- 5.5/10
Another shaky display from the young Englishman post-injury. Never looked confident and allowed Bristol a way back into the game.
Oleksandr Zinchenko- 6.5/10
Solid showing, considering this isn’t his natural position. Wayward shooting and indecisive decision making let him down at times, however.
Fernandinho- 8.5/10
Typical display fro the Brazilian, as he protected the back four excellently. Wasn’t afraid to go for the tackle and made good interceptions.
Kevin de Bruyne- 9/10
City’s best player yet again, the Belgian wizard was at the heart of everything City did, and assisted Aguero’s goal with an exquisite pass before capping off his display with an injury-time winner.
David Silva- 7.5/10
Kept City’s play ticking with some slick passes and touches and dictated everything in front of him. Uncharacteristically poor shooting, however.
Leroy Sane- 6.5/10
A quiet display from the German but popped up at the right place at the right time to score the vital first goal and got the assist for de Bruyne’s winner.
Bernardo Silva- 7.5/10
Another encouraging display from the Portuguese, and surprised everyone with his desire to win the ball off the Bristol keeper to create Sane’s opening goal.
Sergio Aguero- 8/10
His movement and presence in the box kept the Bristol defenders on their toes. Hit the bar in the first half before producing a brilliant finish to put City 2 up.
