AS Roma has rejected Liverpool’s bid for their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker. According to recent reports in the Italian media, the Reds have failed in their attempts to convince the Seria A giants to part ways with their prized asset. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his goalkeeping after both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius has failed to impress with their performances this season. The Merseyside club has struggled defensively and it is partly down to their goalkeeping woes with the club trying to address that position in the near future.
Roma has reportedly told the Merseysiders that the 25-year-old keeper will cost £44m if they want to secure his services this month. However, they want to try and keep hold of the player until at least the end of the current campaign. The Brazilian has kept 12 clean sheets in 27 matches for AS Roma this season which has impressed the Anfield-based outfit.
With the Serie A keeper set to stay at Stadio Olimpico for now, let’s take a look at three alternative options for Jurgen Klopp to consider before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of this month.
Jack Butland
The Stoke City keeper has impressed for the Potters in the last few years and has been a rock at the back at the Bet365 stadium. Although, he has conceded a mammoth 45 goals in 22 appearances for the Staffordshire club with only three shutouts to his name in all competitions. The English keeper has proven his worth in the Premier League over the last few years and could be the ideal candidate to step up to the next level and be Liverpool’s Number 1 goalkeeper for years to come.
Timo Horn
The 24-year-old was sensational last season in the Bundesliga for FC Koln and has done well for the German club in this campaign as well. He has featured in 29 matches for the Cologne side across all competitions, conceding 44 goals but keeping six shutouts so far. Jurgen Klopp could the perfect man to get the best out of his fellow countryman at Anfield in their quest to bridge the gap between themselves and league leaders Manchester City in the coming years.
Mattia Perin
The Italian goalkeeper has lit up the Serie A with his dazzling displays in goal for Genoa. He has made 22 appearances for the Italian side this term, conceding just 24 goals and keeping 8 clean sheets along the way. He will be an ideal fit to take up the goalkeeping duties in Merseyside for Liverpool in the near future.
