Liverpool has sealed a move for Falkirk teenager Tony Gallacher. According to recent reports coming out of Merseyside, the Reds have agreed on £200,000 deal with the Scottish club for the transfer of the youngster. It is expected that Gallacher will go straight into Neil Critchley’s under-23s rather than Jurgen Klopp’s senior team at Melwood. The 18-year-old has already had a week-long trial at the Kirkby Academy earlier in January when he impressed under the watchful eyes of the club authorities. The Merseysiders have moved in quickly to secure his services on a permanent basis in the January transfer window amidst interest from rivals, Manchester United and Stoke City on the player’s signature.
The Scottish youth international has graduated from the Falkirk academy and has also experienced playing football for Forth Valley FA in 2014. The 18-year-old has featured in 17 matches for the Scottish club in all competitions this season and will now look to continue performing well for the Liverpool U-23 side to try and force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven in the near future.
Gallacher made his senior bow for Falkirk at just 16-years-old in a Scottish cup match versus Fraserburgh back in November 2015. He has gone on to make 26 senior appearances for the Scottish side and could make his debut for the Merseyside club’s Under 23 team in Sunday’s Premier League 2 match away at Prenton Park versus Derby County.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently in 4th place in the Premier League table after suffering a disappointing defeat away at Swansea City on Monday night. The Reds are building for the future under Fenway Sports Group’s ownership and has made a habit of signing promising players in recent history as evidenced by the transfers of Joe Gomez, Marko Grujic among many other youngsters.
The German boss Klopp has shown in the past that he is willing to give a chance to his young players if they are good enough which would make it an ideal platform from Gallacher to be nurtured and developed into a top Premier League talent.
The 18-year-old could look at his fellow countryman Andrew Robertson as an example after the Scottish left-back, who operates in the same position as Gallacher, broke into the Liverpool first-team and put in some dazzling displays at Anfield of late. For now, the teenage star would have to work under Neil Critchley in the Under 23 team in what is going to be a learning curve ahead of a possible breakthrough to the first-team in the coming years.
