Liverpool has already made a move for AC Milan midfielder Suso. According to reports in Italian media, the Reds have already tabled an offer for their former player’s signature in an effort to address the hole left in their midfield by the departure of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona earlier this month. Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for reinforcements in the ongoing transfer window and the Spanish international is attracting a lot of attention from the Reds.
The 24-year-old signed for the Merseysiders in 2012 during Brendan Rodgers’ reign at Anfield. He was tipped to be a major hit at Anfield but struggled to break into the Liverpool first-team back then, only making 14 appearances in the top flight before being shipped out to Italy.
Suso was sold in the winter transfer window of 2015 to AC Milan and has impressed with his performances in the Serie A since then. He has finally taken strides towards fulfilling his potential and has established himself as one of the most creative players in the Italian top flight. His dazzling displays for the Milan side has earned him an international call-up for Spain and now, he is desperately working towards making the cut for Spain’s 2018 World Cup squad at the end of the season.
Some sources in Italy claim that Suso is not eager to return to his former club and may decide to keep plying his trade for AC Milan going into the second half of the season. In an interview back in 2016, the Spaniard stated that a move to Italy has benefitted his career. He said, “At Liverpool, there was no going forward and I needed an opportunity. That’s why I chose Milan, who for me are a top European club. It was hard at first but then I was given an opportunity.”
Liverpool are currently in 3rd place in the Premier League table following their incredible 4-3 home victory against league leaders Manchester City who were finally beaten for the first time this season. They have not felt the absence of Coutinho so far but may need to address the void left by his departure going into the future. Suso has scored 7 goals and grabbed 9 assists in 27 appearances for the San Siro based outfit this season and could be a worthy addition to the Reds’ midfield. However, any potential deal will hinge on whether the Spaniard wants to make a move back to his old club.
It remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp’s side are successful in their attempts to re-sign their former midfielder this month.
