Swansea City pulled off probably the biggest heist of the season as they managed to steal all three points from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side this Monday. Carlos Carvalhal’s side took a first-half lead through Alfie Mawson as Liverpool’s defensive frailties came to the fore yet again. The English centre-half’s goal was enough to decide the game as the Reds fail to find the back of the net for the first time in over a month.
The visitors created enough chances to take at least a point from this game but instead saw their 18 games unbeaten run come to a crashing end, just a week after the euphoria at Anfield. They remain in the 4th place in the points table, and here are the player ratings for the side:
Liverpool Players Rated And Slated
Loris Karius (6):
Did not have much to do as Swansea rarely threatened the Liverpool goal. Looked confident whenever called upon.
Joe Gomez (5):
Lost the ball far too many times and added nothing in the attack in a game where he was hardly tested defensively.
Joel Matip (7):
Was quick to snuff out the attacks and added a number at the other end quite often in a commanding display by the Cameroonian.
Virgil van Dijk (8):
A superb debut for the Dutch international, who hardly put a foot wrong. Came close to scoring twice and won everything thrown at him at the back. Could have dealt with the danger leading to the goal but was Liverpool’s best performer on the night.
Andrew Robertson (6):
Like Gomez, was very rarely tested defensively. Put in a number of crosses all night, some delightful, but could not find the right one to break the Swansea defence.
Emre Can (6):
Captaining the side on the night, Can was aggressive in his game, never allowing the hosts to settle in the midfield and keeping his side on top.
Georginio Wijnaldum (4):
Did well to hold up play in the midfield but added completely nothing else to the side, often slowing down the Liverpool attacks.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (6):
Was full of energy and running, harassing the Swansea midfielders. Created a couple of half chances but not enough to win his side the game.
Mohamed Salah (6):
Did not find too much space to work his magic but looked off-colour most of the game, struggling to find any rhythm and settle into the game.
Roberto Firmino (5):
His touch was loose all night as he often gave away possession cheaply. Was unlucky not to score late in the game when he hit the upright but was not his best day at the office.
Sadio Mane (4):
Saw loads of the ball for most of the game but did not do nearly enough with it to even trouble the Swansea side. Was quick to win the ball back but often did very little with it.
Substitutes:
Adam Lallana (6):
Came on with 20 minutes to go and added some urgency to the Liverpool game. Came close to scoring on a couple of occasions and should have been given more time on the field.
Danny Ings (5):
Got just under 20 minutes of normal time and almost found the equalizer. But did not get near enough service to have any impact on the game.
